Caring for your vehicle after repair
Your repair is complete, but your fresh paint and finish need a little time to fully cure. A little extra care over the next 90 days will help protect the work and keep your vehicle looking its best.
The first 60 to 90 days
Your paint may feel dry within hours, but it keeps hardening underneath for weeks. During this curing window, it helps to treat the finish gently.
Do this
- Wash by hand with a car-wash soap or use a touchless (brushless) car wash. Brushes and cloth systems can scuff paint that hasn't finished hardening.
- Park in the shade or a garage when you can. Prolonged direct sun and extreme heat can slow proper curing.
Avoid for now
- Hold off on waxing, buffing or detailing any repainted panels until the finish has had time to cure.
- Don't scrape ice or snow directly off freshly painted panels.
Everyday care
Once the paint has fully cured, a few simple habits keep your whole vehicle looking sharp.
- Tree sap, bird droppings and pollen are acidic and can etch soft paint. If any lands on your vehicle, gently rinse it off as soon as possible.
- Reach for a damp microfiber towel rather than a dry cloth — wiping a dry surface can drag grit across the paint and leave fine scratches.
Protecting your vehicle long-term
- Don't let gasoline, antifreeze, brake fluid or other automotive fluids sit on painted surfaces. Rinse any spills with water as soon as you notice them.
- Keep in mind that automatic washes with brushes can scratch paint over time, so a touchless wash or hand wash is the safer choice whenever possible.
